Antique oval walnut table, mid 19th century – Central Italy

A well-proportioned extendable walnut table, built for everyday use and long-term value.

A well-proportioned solid walnut table, properly made.

The wood is dense and durable, carefully selected.
The grain is clear and readable, with a patina developed over time, still in warm, light tones with slightly rosy undertones. This is not an applied finish — it comes from use.

The shape is oval, with a clean design and a composed line.
The turned “bottle-shaped” legs place it in the Louis Philippe period, around 1840, though here the turning is more restrained, less rounded.

The top is generous and practical.
It can be set properly, but also left uncovered — the surface is sound and well preserved.

It is extendable, with 40 cm modular leaves.
Closed, it is compact and comfortable for four; open, it changes scale and works easily for up to ten.

The structure is simple but solid.
The apron is correctly proportioned and allows comfortable legroom.

The top shows signs of regular use — small marks, nothing intrusive.
Not a flaw, but time that has passed without damaging it.

The restoration has been conservative: structural consolidation, pest treatment, cleaning, and a shellac and wax finish.
The extension leaves have been remade.

This is a provincial middle-class table: sober, balanced, well made.
The kind of piece that can be used without concern and that makes more sense over time.

An original piece in natural wood, bringing real material into a space.
Not production, not reproducible — an object that has crossed nearly two centuries and still works.

In a contemporary dining room it fits without friction: a composed line, balanced proportions, and the warmth of walnut make it feel at home straight away.

They have survived time, earning the right to remain.
They carry memory and truth.
Our work is to recognize them and help them continue.
