Golden angel, the symbol of love

Small 19th-century mecca-gilt wooden sculpture, carved fully in the round, depicting a standing cherub. Height: 23 cm. Missing both arms.

Of fine quality and refined craftsmanship, its sideways orientation suggests that it originally formed part of an elaborate frame, cresting or other decorative architectural composition. Mounted on a modern display stand.
