Pair of "Amanta" Armchairs – Mario Bellini for C&B Italia, 1970s
Low and compact lines, generous volumes and immediate comfort: the “Amanta” armchairs are among the most iconic projects of Italian design from the 1970s. Designed by Mario Bellini in 1966 for the historic C&B Italia (later B&B Italia), they were among the first modular seating systems to feature a moulded fiberglass shell – the so-called Fiberlite – combined with independent cushions, marking a radical shift in the concept of domestic furnishings.
These two original examples are in excellent, well-preserved condition. The rigid white fiberglass structure supports large, removable cushions with original synthetic fiber filling (Honeylan and Dacron) and cognac-colored leather upholstery, with a naturally aged patina, period stitching, and intact charm. On the back, the typical interlocking grooves are clearly visible, designed for modular composition.
The armchairs still retain their original C&B Italia label, indicating the model, materials, and filling system – a further testament to their authenticity and provenance.
A rare, complete pair in remarkable condition, capturing the experimental and visionary spirit of Italian design from that era.
