Tuscan Bench from the Late 18th Century – Louis XVI / Directoire
A light and well-proportioned structure in solid wood, with scrolled armrests and tapered “spindle” legs, typical of the neoclassical taste between the late 18th and early 19th century. The design is clean and disciplined, conceived for everyday elegance: sharp profiles, balanced volumes, and a harmony of sobriety and comfort.
The seat has been newly reupholstered with a soft tufted cushion and two matching bolsters, in full respect of the piece’s historical character. The structure has been consolidated and finished with a light cleaning and a protective shellac and wax treatment.
This is a piece that combines the elegance of neoclassicism with the practicality of a comfortable and compact seat, easily adaptable to different contexts. It works beautifully at the foot of the bed, completing the bedroom with a touch of comfort and functionality; in an entrance hall, as a discreet welcoming bench; beneath a window, creating an intimate reading corner; or in the living room, next to a sofa or between two armchairs, as a conversational seat or simple support surface. Wherever it is placed it brings grace and refinement.
