Small Marchigiano Cupboard in Pine – Late 18th Century, Rustic Lacquer
Small cupboard from the Marche region, dating to the late 18th century, made of pine – a wood commonly used in the hilly inland areas.
The structure is shallow, designed not for clothing but to store tableware, linens, or provisions. The front corners are chamfered, a typical detail from the Adriatic area. The façade is divided into two doors and a lower drawer.
Entirely original, it has been carefully restored: consolidated, cleaned, and retouched where needed. The surface retains its original laccatura povera – a traditional finish made from vinegar, natural pigments, and animal glue, recognizable by its matte and irregular appearance.
The background is linen white, with light blue panels decorated with a faux breccia effect – a simple but effective motif that imitates marble veining.
It likely came from a modest rural household, where it served a practical role in kitchens or transitional spaces.
Today, it fits well in rustic interiors, shabby settings, or even modern spaces as a subtle and authentic contrast.
A piece of popular craftsmanship: functional, well-proportioned, and ready to use.
