Castilian fruitwood cupboard – Central Spain, early 18th century
A cupboard in solid fruitwood, originating from central Spain and crafted in the early decades of the 18th century. An authentic rural piece, with a solid, squared structure, divided into two superimposed compartments, each with double doors. The upper doors are fitted with a lozenge-patterned grille — a typical feature of storage furniture from the heart of Castile — designed to ensure proper air circulation and better preserve foodstuffs such as bread, cheese, grains, and cured meats from moisture and spoilage.
The piece is entirely original and well preserved, complete with its period hardware: locks, rings, and hinges. It has been restored with a conservative approach, aiming to safeguard its structural integrity and aged patina, without altering the surfaces marked by centuries of use.
A tangible testimony to a rural world now vanished, it is the heir to a material culture grounded in function, durability, and the honesty of well-made craftsmanship.
A piece with a strong personality, capable of setting the tone, creating atmosphere, and living alongside contemporary furnishings, offering a warm, substantial counterpoint.
A presence that conveys meaning, memory, and style —
an investment in enduring beauty.
A piece to choose if you’re looking for authenticity, substance, and character.
Because every home deserves at least one true object — one that tells a story.
And this one, simply, does.
