Cylindrical bedside cabinet – France, Empire period
Small column-shaped piece, crafted in blond mahogany in early 19th-century France.
The cylindrical body is marked by broad vertical fluting, inspired by Corinthian columns, a clear reference to the classical models so admired during the Napoleonic era. The white marble top, typical of the taste of the time, is set within a moulded wooden frame.
The door, cleverly concealed among the fluting, opens to reveal a small internal compartment for storing objects.
Designed not only as a bedroom bedside cabinet but also as a gueridon to display vases, candlesticks or marble busts, it contributed to creating domestic settings imbued with the refined and orderly style of the Napoleonic period.
Authentic and well preserved, it perfectly expresses the essential lines and scenographic rigor typical of the Empire style.
