Small marquise, crafted in Northern Italy around the mid-19th century in Rococo style. The structure, finely carved and gilded wood, features curved armrests, cabriole legs, and upholstered seat and backrest.
Made from limewood, a material prized for its ease of carving, it belongs to the period of the 19th-century revival of 18th-century styles, particularly the Louis XV style. This style, with its sinuous and asymmetrical lines, was highly valued for its grace and lightness, contrasting with the austerity of Neoclassicism.
Originally intended to furnish boudoirs and private rooms, this type of seating was designed more for aesthetic appeal than everyday use.
This armchair, original and well-preserved, has undergone structural reinforcement, minor touch-ups, and complete reupholstering.
